Rare complete three-piece DS-85 seating group by De Sede, comprising the convertible sofa and daybed with its matching pair of lounge chairs, preserved together in exceptionally beautiful original black leather.

This remarkable DS-85 seating group was produced by De Sede in Switzerland during the 1970s and consists of the convertible DS-85 sofa and daybed together with its matching pair of lounge chairs. Acquired together and preserved as one ensemble, the three pieces share the same original black leather, distinctive channelled upholstery and beautifully developed natural patina, creating a particularly cohesive and sculptural seating landscape.

The DS-85 perfectly captures De Sede's celebrated approach to comfort, craftsmanship and functional design. Generously padded vertical channels define both the sofa and lounge chairs, giving the group its unmistakable architectural rhythm while creating an exceptionally soft and enveloping seating experience. The two deep lounge chairs are wonderfully comfortable individually, while the sofa offers equally generous proportions and a relaxed seating position.

Adding another dimension to the design, the central sofa transforms into a substantial daybed and fold-out bed. The upholstered backrest can be repositioned and the seating platform unfolds to create a significantly larger sleeping surface. At the rear, an exposed chromed steel structure provides both functional support and a striking architectural contrast to the softness of the black leather.

The entire group remains in its original black leather, which has survived in exceptionally beautiful condition. Its subtle natural patina, gentle variations in sheen and characteristic creasing give the leather depth without compromising its remarkably supple appearance. Original De Sede provenance is further documented on the daybed by the original textile underneath the upholstered elements, repeatedly woven with the “de Sede exclusiv” manufacturer's marking. Complete matching DS-85 groups of this character and condition are increasingly difficult to find.

Condition

Exceptional original vintage condition. The original black leather remains remarkably soft, supple and beautifully preserved throughout the group, displaying only an attractive natural patina consistent with age and careful use. There is no cracking, dryness, tearing or crazing to the leather and no repairs are present. The upholstered volumes remain generous and exceptionally comfortable, while the chromed structure of the daybed presents beautifully. A remarkably well-preserved and correct complete DS-85 ensemble.
