Very Rare Vladimir Kagan Moon Sofa for Club House Italia
Documented and Labelled Kagan New York Collection Sofa from 2001

Few sofas embody Vladimir Kagan’s unmistakable organic design language quite like the Moon. Created for the Kagan New York Collection and produced in Italy by Club House Italia, this sculptural design combines a sweeping asymmetric seat with a floating curved backrest and polished metal bases, resulting in a remarkably fluid composition that changes character from every angle.

The Moon belongs to the celebrated period in which Kagan’s iconic mid-century vocabulary was reintroduced to an international audience through Club House Italia. While closely related in spirit to his famous Serpentine designs, the Moon was conceived as a distinct model with its own proportions and identity. Its more residential scale of 270 cm makes it considerably easier to place than Kagan’s monumental Serpentine compositions, while retaining the same unmistakable sculptural presence.

This particular example is especially desirable because of its unusually strong provenance. It retains its original KAGAN New York Collection metal plaque and is accompanied by the original Kagan New York Collection catalogue from 2001. The catalogue, copyright Vladimir Kagan 2001 and printed in April 2001, illustrates the model as the Moon, model MOK (DIV).

The Moon is exceptionally scarce on the secondary market and rarely appears for sale under its correct model name. Combined with the original label, period catalogue documentation, sculptural form and highly versatile scale, this makes the present example a particularly compelling opportunity for collectors of Vladimir Kagan’s work. Its newly executed off-white bouclé-like upholstery further emphasizes the softness of the design and gives the sofa a highly contemporary presence while remaining respectful of Kagan’s original aesthetic.

Condition

Professionally reupholstered in 2025 in a high-quality off-white bouclé-like fabric and not used since. The upholstery is in excellent condition with no visible stains, pulls or significant signs of wear. The polished metal bases remain very presentable and the original structural elements have been preserved. Original KAGAN New York Collection plaque present. Original 2001 catalogue included.
