Designed by Michel Ducaroy and produced by Ligne Roset in the early 1970s, the Marsala is one of the most expressive lounge designs of its era. Created during a very short production window, it stands apart from Ducaroy’s more widely produced models and today is considered a true collector’s piece. Its low, commanding stance and enveloping form evoke the atmosphere of a refined James Bond interior or a high end private mancave.

This early edition Marsala is defined by its sculptural smoked plexiglass shell, a feature exclusive to the first years of production. The deep, generously tufted black leather upholstery enhances the architectural presence while offering exceptional comfort. The design balances futuristic materials with luxurious tactility, a hallmark of Ligne Roset’s most ambitious seventies creations.

The chair is accompanied by its ottoman, an essential part of the Marsala concept. The ottoman mirrors the same tufted leather construction and plexiglass base, completing the visual and functional harmony of the set.

The leather presents a beautiful, honest patina consistent with age and use, giving the piece strong character without compromising its elegance. The overall condition is very good. On the ottoman, three panels of the patchwork leather have been professionally replaced, carefully matched to preserve the original look and feel of the piece.

With its short production period, early plexiglass construction, and complete configuration, this Marsala set represents one of the most desirable versions of the model. It is a bold yet sophisticated statement piece, equally at home in a modernist interior, a brutalist setting, or a cinematic private lounge.
