An exceptionally vibrant and beautifully balanced Mah Jong composition, combining iconic Missoni Home textiles in a rare and sophisticated colour palette.

Designed by Hans Hopfer for Roche Bobois, the legendary Mah Jong sofa has become one of the most recognisable modular seating systems in contemporary design. Its low, relaxed silhouette and endlessly adaptable construction allow the individual elements to be arranged freely, from a compact sofa to a generous lounge landscape.

What makes this particular composition truly exceptional is its remarkable combination of colours, patterns and textures. Soft pastel Missoni weaves are combined with an expressive floral print, rich mustard, deep petrol blue, pink and subtle geometric patterns. Despite the variety of fabrics, the palette remains beautifully balanced: colourful and playful without ever becoming overwhelming. The softer tones give the composition a surprisingly calm character, allowing it to work equally well in a colourful interior or as a statement piece in a more restrained setting.

The different modules can be rearranged in numerous configurations, making the set particularly versatile. It can be presented as a compact three-part sofa, an extended four-part composition, a corner arrangement or combined with the loose cushions to create additional lounging or ottoman elements. This freedom of composition is at the heart of Hans Hopfer's original Mah Jong concept.

Condition
The sofa is in excellent overall condition, with the fabrics, upholstery and cushions beautifully preserved. On the petrol-blue corner element, some subtle brownish discolouration is visible around several upholstered buttons. This is caused by minor oxidation of the metal button components, something that can occasionally occur following professional wet or steam cleaning when residual moisture remains around the internal metal parts. It is therefore not dirt or staining from use, but a localised oxidation mark. Please refer to the detailed photograph. Apart from this minor cosmetic detail, the set presents exceptionally well.
