LC-1 lounge chair - Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret & Charlotte Perriand - Cassina Italy

Early LC1 Lounge Chair by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret & Charlotte Perriand for Cassina, Italy, 1970s
An early Cassina production of the iconic LC1, combining a graphic black tubular steel frame with beautifully aged cognac-orange leather.

Originally designed in 1928 by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand, the LC1 — originally known as the Fauteuil à Dossier Basculant — has become one of the defining seating designs of 20th-century modernism. Cassina began producing the model in Italy in 1965 as part of its celebrated collection of Le Corbusier, Jeanneret and Perriand designs.

This particular example is an attractive early vintage Cassina production, dating from approximately the 1970s. It is individually marked “LC1 21154” and carries the period Cassina / Le Corbusier authentication marking on the tubular frame.

What makes this example particularly appealing is its striking colour combination. The graphic black tubular steel structure contrasts beautifully with the warm cognac-orange leather, which has developed a rich and natural patina over the years. The result is a chair with considerable visual presence without ever becoming imposing. Its open, almost weightless construction makes it a true interior eyecatcher while remaining elegant and understated.

The characteristic pivoting backrest adapts naturally to the sitter, while the suspended leather seat and gently curved leather armrests emphasize the remarkably light and architectural character of the design. A timeless and highly recognizable design that works equally well as a standalone statement piece or incorporated into a larger seating arrangement.

Condition
Very good original vintage condition with a beautiful age-related patina. The cognac-orange leather shows normal traces of use, including minor marks, creasing and wear, particularly around the armrests, all consistent with its age and use. These traces contribute to the authentic character and appearance of the chair. The black tubular steel frame presents very well.
