Kashima 1988 - Michel Ducaroy - Ligne Roset
Kashima Sofa, Michel Ducaroy for Ligne Roset, 1988
All-Foam Tufted Leather Sofa with Quilted Upholstery
The Kashima sofa, designed by Michel Ducaroy for Ligne Roset in the late 1970s, is a sculptural and inviting piece that reflects the designer’s pioneering approach to foam-based seating. With its generous proportions and enveloping form, this model integrates seamlessly into eclectic, bohemian, or Japandi-inspired interiors.
Constructed entirely from high-density foam, the Kashima guarantees lasting resilience while offering a unique nest-like comfort. Its rich cognac leather upholstery is fully quilted, creating deep tufting and “pinched” corner seams that accentuate its organic, sculpted look. The leather has developed a perfect patina over time, displaying beautiful tonal variations. Minor spots are present but barely noticeable, further adding to the authentic vintage character.
The seating experience is deeply comfortable: soft yet supportive, with integrated armrests, lumbar, and headrest contours. The foam remains in excellent condition, preserving the plush comfort and durability that Ducaroy envisioned.
A true Ligne Roset icon of the 1980s, the Kashima stands alongside Ducaroy’s legendary Togo as a defining example of French modern design. Both playful and timeless, it is a collectible statement piece that elevates any interior.
