Kashima 1985 - Michel Ducaroy - Ligne Roset

Kashima Sofa, Michel Ducaroy for Ligne Roset, 1985
All-Foam Tufted Leather Sofa in Original Black Leather

The Kashima sofa, designed by Michel Ducaroy for Ligne Roset, is a masterclass in sculptural comfort and French modernism. Introduced in the late 1970s, it represents Ducaroy’s evolution of all-foam construction, creating a low, enveloping lounge piece that blurs the line between furniture and form. This 1985 example in rare original black leather is one of the most striking iterations of the model, elegant, masculine, and architectural in presence.

Constructed entirely from high-density foam, the Kashima offers exceptional resilience and softness. The deeply quilted upholstery defines its identity: grid-tufted leather panels, expertly stitched and hand-pulled to create a distinctive padded rhythm across the seat and back. In black, the sofa exudes a darker, more masculine edge, perfect for refined interiors, lofts, or a contemporary mancave aesthetic.

The leather remains in excellent vintage condition, showing a beautiful natural sheen and subtle creasing consistent with age but no damage or repairs. The foam retains its structure and support, offering the same enveloping comfort for which Ducaroy’s creations are celebrated.

A rare find in original black leather, this Kashima stands as a collectible Ligne Roset icon from the 1980s, embodying both sensual comfort and sculptural strength, a timeless design statement in any space.
