Exceptional Soft Quilted Leather Sofa in Cream Open Grain Leather

A refined and sculptural expression of Michel Ducaroy’s design language, the Kashima two seater sofa captures the relaxed elegance of 1970s French modernism. Designed for Ligne Roset, it reflects Ducaroy’s exploration of low seating and organic volume, now translated into a more generous and social format, ideal for interiors that balance soft minimalism with warmth and tactility.

This particular example was produced in 1980 and comes from the first owner, originally placed in a secondary residence in France. Its relatively limited use over time is visible in the preservation of both structure and upholstery, while still showing honest signs of age consistent with a well maintained vintage piece.

The defining element is the exceptional open grain leather in a warm cream tone. The leather remains remarkably soft, almost velvety to the touch, enhancing the deep quilted construction that defines the Kashima. The rhythmic grid of padded squares creates a subtle landscape of volume and shadow, while the natural patina and a few light marks and stains introduce gentle tonal variation that adds character without disturbing its calm and balanced presence.

Comfort is immediate and inviting. The all foam construction adapts effortlessly to the body, offering a relaxed yet supportive lounge experience for two. The condition is very good vintage, with normal signs of use including light wear and some visible spots, all consistent with age and contributing to its authentic appeal.

As a design, the Kashima belongs to the lineage of Ducaroy’s most iconic creations, sharing a conceptual connection with the Togo while presenting a more structured and architectural silhouette.
