Designed by Gerard van den Berg for Montis, the Rock lounge chair is a powerful example of late twentieth century Dutch design, where comfort, tactility and sculptural presence come together. This model reflects Van den Berg’s philosophy of designing seating that adapts to the human body rather than imposing rigid form.

The Rock chair is characterised by its high enveloping backrest, softly sloped seat and monolithic silhouette. The absence of a visible frame enhances its architectural quality, allowing the form to read as a single sculpted volume. Originally conceived as a fireside chair, it offers deep comfort while maintaining a strong visual identity.

This original vintage example has been fully reupholstered in brand new high quality black leather. The new leather has been carefully selected to respect the original character of the design, offering a rich surface, natural softness and long term durability. The upholstery work gives the chair a renewed presence while preserving its authentic Montis identity.

With its generous proportions and low seat height, the Rock chair functions equally well as a statement lounge chair in a living space, gallery setting or refined hospitality interior. A distinctive and increasingly sought after piece from Montis’ most experimental period.
