Unveiled in 1972, the DS-600 modular leather ottoman aera lab vintage design furniture is one of the most iconic modular seating systems of the 20th century — a true design milestone created by the Swiss collective Ueli Berger, Elenora Peduzzi-Riva, Heinz Ulrich, and Klaus Vogt for De Sede. Known as the “Tatzelwurm” or “Snake Sofa”, its organically flowing form and endless scalability made it a revolutionary presence in both private and public interiors.

This piece is not just a DS-600 — it’s an early edition that comes in a rare collector’s configuration of several modular elements accompanied by two perfectly matching ottomans, a virtually unseen combination on the vintage market. These poofs were produced in the same leather, same period, and form a seamless extension of the sculptural silhouette.

Each segment features a rigid L-shaped foam core wrapped in supple leather cushions, connected through a plug-in hinge and zippered leather hide system — a technical and aesthetic marvel. The modularity allows for freeform arrangements, while the poofs add visual rhythm and expanded usability.

Stored in the archive of a Parisian hotel, the set has been professionally revitalized: the leather has been carefully cleaned, nourished, and its color refreshed. A few of the internal leather connection elements were replaced in accordance with the original build. All visible elements remain authentic, preserving the soul of this design classic.
