Bar Table ‘Hidden bar’ - Willy Rizzo - Cidue Italy 1970s
RARE EXTENDABLE COFFEE TABLE WITH CONCEALED MIRRORED DRY BAR
An exceptional 1970s design by Willy Rizzo for Cidue, combining the clean geometry of a low coffee table with an ingeniously concealed mirrored cocktail bar.
Designed by Willy Rizzo and produced by Cidue in Italy during the 1970s, this remarkable Bar Table perfectly embodies Rizzo’s glamorous yet architectural approach to furniture. When closed, the piece presents itself as a beautifully proportioned rectangular coffee table, combining a black recessed base, brushed metal surround and deep smoked mirrored glass surfaces.
Its true character is revealed through the ingenious sliding mechanism. The two sections glide smoothly outwards, dramatically extending the table and revealing a concealed central dry bar. The interior is entirely finished in mirror, creating a striking play of reflections when opened. A removable transparent acrylic bottle holder is included, allowing bottles to be securely positioned within the bar compartment.
The opening mechanism functions perfectly and operates exceptionally smoothly. When fully extended, the table reaches an impressive 202 cm in width, transforming the restrained coffee table into a spectacular cocktail bar. Once closed, the entire bar compartment disappears from view, restoring the clean, architectural silhouette of the design.
A striking and highly functional piece of 1970s Italian design, combining Rizzo’s characteristic sense of glamour with an ingenious transformation that only becomes apparent once the table is opened.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The smoked mirrored glass panels have been professionally replaced and are in excellent, scratch-free condition. The original metal surround shows visible signs of age and use, including more pronounced scratches to one side as pictured and general surface wear elsewhere. The fully mirrored interior and removable transparent acrylic bottle holder are present. The sliding mechanism functions perfectly and smoothly.
