Soriana Lounge Chair - Afra E Tobia Scarpa - Cassina
Soriana Lounge Chair by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Cassina
Deep Red Leather Lounge Chair on Original Wooden Base. Signed.
Designed in 1969 by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Cassina, the Soriana is one of the most radical and celebrated expressions of Italian design of the early 1970s. Launched in 1969, the model was awarded the Compasso d’Oro in 1970 and stands as a defining example of the radical Italian design movement, where comfort, volume and construction were intentionally made visible.
This example has been professionally reupholstered in deep red to bordeaux leather. The reupholstery has been executed to an exceptionally high standard. The pleat formation, tension, button placement and overall proportions precisely follow the original design intent. The Soriana is widely regarded as one of the most difficult lounge chairs to upholster correctly, and this piece clearly demonstrates a high level of craftsmanship.
The chair retains its original wooden base with label and original internal padding, preserving the correct sit, softness and silhouette. The condition is beautiful throughout, combining visual strength with comfort and authenticity.
A refined and honest example of this iconic Italian design, balancing originality, correct restoration and strong sculptural presence.
